The BRC Aquarium's Research Department is thrilled to announce the launch of our deep-water submersible research vessel, the RV MOIST-1, to advance our mission of exploring the uncharted depths and enduring mysteries of Lake Lahontan.
This ancient body of water is noted for its astonishing range of endemic fauna, many of which are new to science. The submersible will contribute many important observations to the playa-wide marine community.
The Research Department seeks participants to step inside, operate the submersible, and record the astonishing species to be found in deep playa.
The BRC Aquarium is closed for renovation in 2026, but with this launch, we encourage all to take part in seeing the fish and being the fish.
