Petal and Piston includes three metal cacti sculptures, conceptually rooted from the unique desert environment of Baja California Sur.
The sculptures are primarily made from industrial-grade, repurposed materials like large towing chains and horse shoes, creating a powerful visual impact and a sense of "upcycling".
Stained-glass flower designs will bloom from the tips, adding vibrant color and delicate, light-refracting detail to the heavy metal structures.
This installation stands as a response to the juxtaposition between masculinity and femininity, as well as the delicate growth and beauty that comes from unexpected hardship.
