Salvaged fabric from Christo's famous 1976 landscape art, the 24.5-mile-long "Running Fence" used for curtains to beautify the trash fence.
The Running Fence was originally conceived as "Curtains for West Berlin," a project to cover the infamous Berlin Wall that separated the democratic West from authoritarian East Berlin. Black Rock City has a similar structure blocking citizens from entering federal land.
Christo cancelled his long-planned "Over The River" project in 2017 after the surprise outcome of the federal election saying: "I can't do a project that benefits this landlord."
We will never see "Over The River," but since we are already permitted, we will implement the concept of "Curtains" at Black Rock City."
